Color Block Down a Brooklyn Block

Hey fashionistas! Today’s post is a tribute to my beautiful home: Brooklyn! Make sure to read through the entire post to get links for both my heels and dress — they’re both on sale!

Today’s outfit is all about color blocking and fall! For those who don’t know, color blocking is a method of wearing multiple solid colors in an outfit. The outfit then revolves around 2 of more primary colors, usually in bright or bold shades. So here’s my twist on color blocking!

Against the red brick and whimsical flowers of this Brooklyn block, my bright outfit did exactly what I needed it to do — BE BOLD!

I am in LOVE with this dress! If you know me, then you I hate clothes that fit tight or hug my body too snug, especially dresses. This dress was perfect, giving me room to walk, breathe, and ensuring my undergarments don’t show. The flutter sleeves, although not shown here, made the dress more of a time piece! Get this dress on sale HERE! I purchased it in 2 colors, including black.

In high school, my friends and I loved to color block (even though we were stuck in a school uniform), but back then I think I dressed much more casual so my color blocked outfits were nothing like this. Back then, you could find any trend on Tumblr and if you weren’t wearing colored skinny jeans, did you have real style? Thank God those days are long behind me! (haha) But a lesson I can take from that is to experiment with colors and texture. In the end, it can be a beautiful mess!

My shoes are from Call it Spring and they are so comfortable! I am a believer that beauty shouldn’t always be painful so I was relieved that I could comfortably walk these shoes. Get these heels on sale HERE!

For the rest of my outfit, unfortunately they are older pieces so I do not have links for them. My jacket is TopShop (around 2013) and my mini bag is Zara (around 2015). My mini bag has my initials, SKM, in gold print that I actually customize myself! At the time, Kate Spade sold individual letters that you can stamp on their bags. I didn’t have money for a Kate Spade bag so I bought the letters for my initials and put them on my super cute, round Zara mini bag to get that Kate Spade effect! Lesson: always work with what you have 😉

As you plan your future outfits, don’t forget to take risks with colors, textures, and prints! Try to color block in a chic way as I did here!

Happy Styling,

Fashenika
